3 Easy Ways To Prevent An Injury
Injuries shouldn’t hamper your health
Whether you’re a gym member, house-husband or wife, runner, swimmer or partake is more sedentary hobbies, injuries are a way of life. Often ignored and when they really play up… we get to see them!
Why not prevent them in the first place? Injuries are not part and parcel of training. Accidents do happen, such as slips, trips, falls and contact sporting injuries but the majority are due to overuse or poor training routines and even stretches and imbalances.
However, it isn’t all doom and gloom. Here are a few easy ways to make sure you prevent those niggly injuries as much as possible.
1. Warm up and cool off
Time and time again we treat many recurrent niggles that can easily be prevented by starting your exercise session with a warm-up or finishing with a cool down. Simply taking a few extra minutes to restore your body always pays off in the long run. Whether you’re running on a cold evening or lifting weights in the gym, always make time to properly prepare and repair your body.
2. Your own regime, your own way
With any structured routine, always ensure it is tailor-made for you, taking into account your goals and any underlying issues you present with.
3. Get good balance!
I see so many patients who find keeping fit a great routine and way of life. However, for those patients who travel a lot, sit at a desk or drive long distances, the static component to everyday life is a stark contrast to a run or fitness class! We find bridging this gap is easy with a pilates class. Opting for a weekly class or trying out some home exercises really will make a difference.
They say change is as good as rest, so try something new and see!
